Bloodline of Evil was born from a question that refused to be silenced. Many years ago, I became involved in a murder case whose brutality seemed matched only by its senselessness. The identity of the killer was never the mystery; what haunted me was the deeper question of why. I found myself drawn beyond the facts of the crime and into the darker currents of motive, memory, and human nature. In search of those answers, I began writing a manuscript that accompanied me on a journey into the Smoky Mountains, when my first editor, who is now my wife, read its pages aloud as we traveled by four-wheel drive toward a remote cabin. There, amid the solitude of the mountains and the echoes of a tragedy long past, the story that would become Bloodline of Evil first found its voice.
